Bill Carvalho, Wild Planet

In 2001, Wild Planet founder, Bill Carvalho, happened upon an exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium that told the story of our oceans reaching their breaking point. Deeply moved by his visit, Bill changed the course of his original seafood business, which began in 1990, into one dedicated to sourcing only from environmentally exemplary fisheries and renamed the business Wild Planet Foods. Born out of reverence for ocean life, Wild Planet endeavors to positively impact the canned seafood category to protect ocean resources for generations to come. Wild Planet is now the fourth largest canned seafood brand in the US and is the leader in the Premium Canned Seafood Category.

Bill has partnered financially with Albacore Research Foundation (ARF) since 1998 and has been a board member of ARF since 2006. Bill believes that the convergence of buyers, fishermen and academics performing scientific research can yield valuable insights, consumer education, and positive industry transformation.
