Rick Goche, F/V Peso II

Rick caught his first commercial fish in 1966 at the age of 13. That same year he began working for Oregon State University at a research lab a few miles from his home. Since then, he has been involved in all aspects of fisheries from research to retail. Rick owns the F/V Peso II, his fifth troller, a freezer boat fishing albacore out of Charleston, Oregon. He has served on the Oregon Albacore Commission for 20 years, 16 years of that as Chairman. He also served many years as president of the Albacore Research Foundation.

Working with ARF is a unique opportunity for fishermen to contribute to the biological knowledge base of a truly amazing fish, the albacore tuna. The albacore fishery is arguably the most sustainable fishery on the West Coast of North America. I continue my involvement in the representative boards I sit on because I want to keep the fishery clean, sustainable and accessible to the coming generations. The albacore troll and pole fisheries are uniquely sustainable. Let’s keep it that way!
